Throughout history Totora has been used in Peru, most notably for fishing vessels dating back 3,000 years. In Lake Titicaca the Uros people live on floating islands made of Totora.

Made by a cooperative of artisans in Northern Peru, the stalks are first harvested, dried, and later woven into baskets.

This basket is made by hand, variations and slight imperfections may occur. This naturally enhances its character and personality and makes it one of a kind.

While Totora reeds are primarily associated with boat construction in the Lake Titicaca region, they also have various other uses in the local culture, including for making mats, handicrafts, and even as a source of food.
